Strategic Purpose Statement
To enable the Polytechnic to provide a work-based learning programme customised to the needs of
the three partners - the learner, the employer and the Polytechnic, and to
* provide accessible and flexible opportunities for those in paid or unpaid work to access a comprehensive range of under- graduate and post graduate qualifications.
* provide a means to recognise and accredit higher-level learning that is specifically achieved in the context of work to promote continuing personal and professional development.
* enable learners to recognise their own work-based learning as the subject of higher education study and to negotiate programmes which are focused on topics and issues relevant to their work.
* enable learners to develop higher level knowledge and understanding, cognitive, practical, personal and enabling skills from the study of their own work-based learning.
* provide the means to construct negotiated work-based higher education programmes, in partnership with an employer or other organisation, and to design these to meet development needs.
* offer award pathways from graduate diploma to masters level which recognise and accredit the learning achieved by learners through work and other life experiences.
* provide opportunities for learners and/or their employers to negotiate programmes of study which are focused upon topics and issues relevant to their workplace.
Graduate profile
On completion of this qualification, graduates will be able to
1 design and conduct research relating to an area of inquiry within the professional
practice significant to the learner and their workplace, by
a identifying sources of knowledge and evidence and using them appropriately,
with the identification and appropriate use of sources of knowledge and
evidence being wide ranging, critical and often innovative;
b selecting and justifying approaches to the tasks which will be self-directed and
involve recognition, articulation and critical evaluation of a range of options
from which a justified selection based upon a reasoned methodology is made;
c considering and articulating the range of ethical dimensions that impact on the
inquiry and resolving these appropriately;
d analysing and synthesising information and ideas which result in the creation
of significant knowledge ;
2 engage in self-appraisal/reflection on practice which leads to significant insights likely
to make a lasting impact upon personal and professional understanding;
3 undertake complex action-planning leading to effective and appropriate action likely
to impact upon the work of others;
4 evaluate information and ideas independently and critically evaluate/argue a position
concerning alternative approaches; can justify evaluations as constituting bases for
improvements in practice;
5 demonstrate generic skills in the area of professional practice on completion of their
programme where the application of learning will transcend specific contexts;
a effective use of resources will be wide ranging and likely to impact upon the
work of others
b communicate effectively and persuasively in writing and orally in an
appropriate format to appeal to a particular target audience
c work and learn autonomously and with others spanning a range of contexts,
often in a leadership role, understanding this is likely to challenge or develop
the practices and//or beliefs of others

Entry Requirements
The Master of Professional Practice will be accessible to those who wish to build on a bachelor's degree, Graduate Diploma, Bachelor Honours Degree or a Post-graduate Diploma as well as building on extensive professional experience of an appropriate kind.

The minimum entry requirements for entry to Year One are: an under-graduate degree in a relevant field of study, and/or degree equivalent professional experience. The minimum entry requirements for International Students are: International students must demonstrate that they have equivalent experience/qualifications as domestic students and for those whose first language is not English, must show evidence of English Language competence at IELTS overall band score of 6.5 with no individual band less than 6.0 or equivalent.

Credits
