Strategic Purpose Statement |
The aims of the work-based learning programmes are to widen access to higher education by:
- offering award tracks from undergraduate to master level which recognise and accredit the learning achieved by learners through work and other life experiences - building partnerships with employers and organisations which utilise learning from, through and for work * provide opportunities for learners and/or their employers to negotiate programmes of study which are focused on topics and issues relevant to their workplace * develop and support learners in becoming autonomous learners, capable of: - managing and critically evaluating their learning - undertaking work-based projects which meet both their own needs and those of others eg employers/sponsors/ organisations * providing a learner-centred curriculum which benefits Otago Polytechnic's position as a leading provider of work-based learning opportunities. |

Graduate profile |
Graduates will have the capability to engage in self-appraisal/reflection on their professional practice which will lead to significant insights impacting upon personal and professional development, the application of their learning in a range of contexts, working autonomously and with others in ways which may develop and/or challenge current practice through a negotiated inquiry project. This will be achieved through the identification and use of appropriate sources of knowledge and evidence, critical appraisal and justification of alternative strategies within a range of contexts, and working with their employers on programmes of study which are focused on topics and issues relevant to their workplace

Education pathways |
Most learners undertaking the programme will be in part- or full-time employment. Graduation from the GradDip may allow them to take on more significant projects within the workplace.

Entry Requirements |
The minimum entry requirements are:
1 a bachelor's degree, or 2 degree equivalent and relevant practical, professional or educational experience. The minimum entry requirements for International Students are: International students must demonstrate that they have equivalent experience/qualifications as domestic students and for those whose first language is not English, must show evidence of English Language competence at IELTS overall band score of 6.5 with no individual band less than 6.0 or equivalent. 6.2.2 Selection Process The following learner profile will be used to select learners who meet the entry requirements listed in 6.2.1 and a Learning Agreement will be used to identify the learner pathway. |

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
