Strategic Purpose Statement
The qualification enables students to gain recognised skills and knowledge in the area of Information
Technology whilst working or preparing to work in industry. Students have the opportunity to enrol
in elective courses that allow them to apply learned skills to real-life examples, projects and
scenarios and to engage directly with industry. The qualification provides employers with resilient,
ethical, self-managing, culturally and emotionally intelligent employees, with sound social and
communication skills. Graduates can use their enhanced knowledge, skills and capabilities to obtain
employment in positions of responsibility that relate to the electives they choose, and/or to proceed
to further studies, such as a masterate degree.
Graduate profile
Graduates will be able to:
* work effectively in multicultural teams and exercise leadership as required,
* engage in rigorous intellectual analysis, criticism and problem-solving,
* learn independently and appreciate the need for continued learning,
* apply their advanced knowledge and skills in practical situations,
* critically evaluate research literature in Information Technology,
* plan, conduct and report on small-scale research projects,
* communicate effectively (orally, visually and in writing),
* identify, analyse and address IT-related ethical issues, and
* apply project management knowledge and skills.
Education pathways
Graduates wishing to undertake further study may be admitted into master's programmes in New
Zealand or overseas, possibly with some credit recognition.
Employment pathways
Graduates (with further work experience in some cases) will be able to work in business, education,
government, health, industry or the community sector. Possible jobs include Business Analyst,
Database Administrator, Data Scientist, Project Manager, Information Systems Manager, Network
Manager, Security Specialist, Software Developer, Software Tester, Systems Administrator,
Systems Analyst, Systems Integrator and Team Leader. Electives can be chosen to suit the student's

Entry Requirements
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Information Technology or related subject or evidence of
relevant skills and knowledge through appropriate work or professional experience
International: IELTS 6.5 (with no band below 6.0), or equivalent
It is highly recommended that students who enrol in the programme have their own laptop

Level

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
