Strategic Purpose Statement |
The purpose of this qualification is to provide process industries with individuals who have a broad knowledge of the underpinning Industrial Measurement and Control (IMC) theory that supports the practical skills of instrument installation, servicing, calibration and commissioning required to operate safely and competently within industrial environments.
This qualification is also suitable for individuals who intend to advance their electrical or mechanical engineering knowledge at an industrial level. This qualification is suitable for those seeking a career as an instrumentation technician, able to work under limited supervision and with self-management of their own learning and performance. |

Graduate profile |
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- Apply principles of core process measurement systems used to measure physical quantities and processes in an industrial environment. - Apply principles of control systems, platforms, and industrial communication systems, including plant safety and utility systems used to control and monitor industrial processes in an industrial environment. - Apply knowledge of industrial processes related to control systems, plant operations, maintenance and documentation in an industrial environment. |

Education pathways |
There are two entry level qualifications in the qualification pathway for individuals intending to become an IMC technician. This qualification is intended for individuals who are either embarking on an IMC apprenticeship, or who want to gain the broad operational knowledge of IMC theory in preparation for entry into an IMC apprenticeship.
This qualification can also build on certificate/s in electrical theory and practice at level four such as the New Zealand Certificate in Electrical Trade (Level 4) with strands in General Electrical, and Electricity Supply [Ref: 4204]. This qualification leads to the New Zealand Certificate in Industrial Measurement and Control (Practice) (Level 4), and then on to the New Zealand Certificate in Industrial Measurement and Control (Level 5) with strands in Process Control, and Process Automation [Ref: 2253]. |
