Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the dairy processing sector with credentialled employees with advanced technical knowledge who can carry out a range of dairy processing operations and operate as a technical specialist with an emphasis on quality assurance and systems improvement.

It will establish standards of professional practice for technical specialists that can provide employers with confidence in the quality of manufacture of the range of dairy products produced.

It is targeted at individuals who are employed as experienced dairy processing technical specialists.

Graduates will benefit dairy processing companies by contributing to the achievement of systems and end to end value chain improvement, and overall manufacturing excellence.

Graduates will operate with a high level of responsibility and discretion within their organisation with full responsibility for product quality.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Apply knowledge of dairy science and engineering principles to evaluate and improve the end to end value chain of dairy products.
- Apply specialised technical, operational and systems knowledge, and the interpretation of data to the end to end production process to maintain and improve product, safety and quality.
- Evaluate the current and emerging technologies used in the production of a range of dairy products, and apply knowledge of these to contribute to systems improvement.
- Develop own professional capabilities as a leader and manager of a dairy processing operation to contribute to manufacturing excellence.
Education pathways
This qualification builds on the New Zealand Certificate in Dairy Processing (Level 5) [Ref: 2564].
Graduates of this qualification may progress to higher level business, management or leadership qualifications.
Employment pathways

Credits
