Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the forest industry with individuals who have the skills and knowledge required to carry out a technical or management role within the forest growing and harvesting sectors.
The forest industry will benefit from having people who can apply a blend of management skills and forest knowledge to enable them to contribute to the medium and long-term planning and management of forest operations.
They will have developed a broad range of skills including the use of a wide range of industry specific software, forest planning, harvesting, supply chain management, log product logistics, commercial and financial analysis and contract management.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Research the impacts of forestry on the environment and its role in enhancing values for communities.
- Analyse forestry supply chains to improve production processes and wood flow outcomes.
- Develop health, safety and environmental management systems for forestry businesses.
- Apply scientific principles and technologies, growth and yield modelling, and forest valuation to optimise forest management practice.
- Develop medium-term management plans and long-term business plans for forestry business initiatives.
- Develop plans to manage establishment, silviculture harvest planning and harvesting operations, including the calculation of forest operations costs, and contract management requirements.
- Research, analyse, and report on business improvement and production process improvement initiatives in a forest growing or harvesting context.
- Apply leadership, team building and communication knowledge and skills to work in a commercial forest context.
Education pathways
This qualification can lead to higher level study in Forestry Science.
Employment pathways
Graduates of this qualification will be able to work in a technical or a management role within a forest owner or management company.
They may also work in an operational role within a forest harvesting or silviculture company.
