Strategic Purpose Statement |
The qualification enables students to gain recognised skills and knowledge in the area of Information Technology whilst working or preparing to work in the industry. Students have an opportunity to enrol in elective courses that allow them to apply learned skills to real-life examples, projects and scenarios and to engage directly with industry. The qualification provides employers with resilient, ethical, self-managing, culturally and emotionally intelligent employees, with sound social and communication skills. Graduates can use their enhanced knowledge, skills and capabilities to obtain employment in positions of responsibility that relate to the electives they choose, and/or to proceed to further studies, such as a doctorate degree.

Graduate profile |
Graduates of the Master of Information Technology will be able to:
* critically evaluate research literature in Information Technology and related disciplines * work effectively in multicultural teams and exercise leadership as required * show evidence of advanced knowledge about a specialist field of enquiry * engage in rigorous intellectual analysis, criticism and problem-solving * work independently and appreciate the need for continued learning * demonstrate mastery of sophisticated theoretical subject matter * apply their advanced knowledge and skills to new situations * plan, conduct and report on substantial research projects * communicate effectively (orally, visually and in writing) * research, analyse and argue from evidence * identify, analyse and address ethical issues * undertake further postgraduate study A graduate who completes a 90 credit thesis will also be able to demonstrate a high order of skill in the planning, execution and completion of a piece of original research. |

Education pathways |
Graduates of the Master of Information Technology who have completed a 90 credit thesis with a good grade and obtained good grades across their level 8 papers may be admitted to doctoral programmes in New Zealand or overseas.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Information Technology or related subject with at least a B grade average at Level 7 (or 8) Equivalence includes at least three (3) years relevant work or professional experience. International: IELTS 6.5 (with no band below 6.0), or equivalent It is highly recommended that students who enrol in the programme have their own laptop.
