Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the equine industry with individuals who have the skills and knowledge to manage the care and exercise of horses in training for the sporthorse sector of the equine industry.

Graduates will be capable of working under minimum supervision with responsibility for work outcomes and will be able to contribute effectively and professionally in the workplace.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Communicate effectively with team members, clients, and performance venue personnel.
- Manage the day-to-day care requirements of horses in training.
- Manage problems of performance horses and emergencies involving horses.
- Implement, monitor, and review horses' training plans for a specific equestrian discipline.
- Manage the preparation and requirements of horses before, during and after an event, and attend to the rider's requirements.
Education pathways
This qualification builds on the Sporthorse Stable Assistant strand of the New Zealand Certificate in Equine Skills with strands in Harness Racing Assistant, Thoroughbred Raceday Strapper, Thoroughbred Stable Assistant, Thoroughbred Racing Track Rider, and Sporthorse Stable Assistant (Level 3) [Ref: 2376].
This qualification can lead to Equestrian Sports New Zealand training in specialist equestrian disciplines.
Employment pathways
Graduates of this qualification may be employed as senior sporthorse grooms.
