Strategic Purpose Statement
The strategic purpose of this qualification is to provide the
public, private and community health sector with specialised
work-ready professional health sector managers. The
qualification addresses diverse health sector employer needs
such as: health strategies and priorities, health governance,
health quality management systems, specialised health
business requirements, facilitative management, health
research methods and their application and understandings of
health service quality evaluation approaches and practices.
The qualification targets learners with an interest and
experience of the health sector wishing to move into a career
as a specialised professional health sector manager. The key benefactors of this qualification will be the health and medical
sector service providers and consumers such as Māori,
Pasifika communities. Graduates will benefit the sector by
working effectively and optimising the health services that
can be provided with finite resources.
Graduate profile
Programme graduates will gain an advanced theoretically, evidence-based and practice-informed holistic facilitative professional Health sector manager education. They will be capable of consulting, analysing, evaluating public and community health needs and applying creative and facilitative management approaches to needs identified. They will be capable of managing programmes, projects and organisations that address diverse health needs in a professional and effective manner. Higher and associative critical, creative, analytical, evaluative and reflective thinking capabilities and associated practice and implementation capabilities will be developed. Graduates will apply professional responses to predictable and unfamiliar challenges and problems. Management practices will be professional, safe, risk aware and ethical while technically accurate and appropriate. Graduates will also be inquiring and capable of undertaking further and more advanced studies in an associated field.

Further degree or postgraduate level health, business, management, leadership, governance,public health, evaluation or research studies, they include for example: Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health, Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science, Postgraduate Diploma in Evaluation, Postgraduate Diploma in Social Science Evaluation Research, Certificate in Governance, Postgraduate Diploma in Management (Health) and Postgraduate Diploma in Health Management.

Entry Requirements
Both national and international learners must be at least 20 years of age in the year of study and hold as a minimum a Level 5 Diploma in Health and 3 years' related work experience, or Level 6 Diploma in Health and two years' related work experience; or degree and one year of experience in health related work; or the applicant can demonstrate equivalent level 6 academic plus practical, professional or technical knowledge and skills in an entrance examination and admission interview that would be held prior to confirmation of enrolment. All applicants will be interviewed to evaluate their readiness to study this advanced programme as part of the selection process.

International learners who have achieved their qualifications in non-English speaking educational settings must also provide evidence of having achieved current NZQA English language requirements.
