Strategic Purpose Statement
Through critical engagement with communities, and working in collaborative interdisciplinary environments, graduates will be able to identify, contextualise, and define important issues and relevant research questions. Applying mastery of advanced professional practice, in collaboration with employers, industries and communities, graduates will be able to plan, execute, and complete a practice-relevant research project that is disseminated in order to provide solutions and innovations that influence practice.
Graduate profile
All graduates of the Master of Applied Practice will be able to: Recognise access and critically engage in available scholarship and advanced specialised knowledge to remain professionally current. Engage in contextualised self-reflection on practice and recognise the potential to influence applied professional practice, through enhanced professional understanding. Working in the context of practice, improve communication across disciplines and cultures within changing environments. Apply professionally relevant knowledge, and using evidence, innovate within practice... Through leadership and collaboration, analyse, understand and propose potential solutions to complex professional challenges. Anticipate communication challenges in context of practice and determine effective and appropriate communication methods to disseminate to target audiences and relevant and contemporary professional practice techniques to the wider audience. Plan, execute and complete novel applied practice research that informs and impacts practice contributing to profession-relevant knowledge.
If the Master's degree includes a component of supervised research of not fewer than 90 credits at L9 the graduate will be able to:
Demonstrate a high order of skill in the planning, execution and completion of a piece of original research or other scholarly work to an internationally recognised standard.

In addition to the generic capabilities, the graduate of the Master of Applied Practice with a Specialisation in Social Practice will be able to:
Engage critically with the various meanings of social justice and employ the knowledge and skills needed to pursue the aims of social justice.
Analyse wider social policies and social discourses that limit client and practitioner capacities and potentials, with the aims of creating opportunity and empowering individuals, groups and communities.

In addition to the generic capabilities, the graduate of the Master of Applied Practice with a Specialisation in Health Science will be able to:
Evaluate, and critically engage with, healthcare practice and/or research literature.
Show in depth understanding of compliance with the appropriate ethical, regulatory and cultural requirements for healthcare practice in New Zealand.
Be an effective communicator, able to disseminate healthcare practices and concepts to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
Critically engage with current health practice and engage with a programme of research to improve either professional practice or outcomes for health consumers.
Identify research or practice questions and apply appropriate study design and methods to advance knowledge and/or healthcare practice.

In addition to the generic capabilities, the graduate of the Master of Applied Practice with a Specialisation in Clinical Research will be able to:
Evaluate and critically engage with clinical research literature and results.
Undertake and manage clinical research projects of varying design, and in a variety of clinical settings.
Meet the appropriate ethical, regulatory and cultural requirements for clinical research in New Zealand.
Disseminate research findings in oral and written communication.
Identify clinical research questions and apply appropriate study design and methods to advance knowledge.

Credits
