Strategic Purpose Statement
Through reflective practice, graduates will be able to apply their practice-based knowledge to identify complex issues in dynamic environments. Through experiential learning they will critically engage with specialised knowledge and apply this within interdisciplinary work environments. They will be able to develop strategies for further enquiry and research.
Specialisation: Health Science
Health practitioners will be enabled to work collaboratively, within and across disciplines, to lead and deliver optimal evidence-based practice to benefit clients and communities.
Specialisation: Clinical Research
Practitioners will be enabled to lead and participate in collaborative clinical research programmes that contribute evidence that influences and improves health care delivery.

Specialisation: Social Practice
Social practitioners (including social workers, community developers, counsellors and not-for-profit practitioners) will be enabled to work collaboratively in cross-sector and complex environments, in order to transform practice in ways that promote social justice and reduce inequalities within communities
Graduate profile
Graduates of the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Practice will be able to:
* Engage critically with the various meanings of social justice and employ the knowledge and skills needed to pursue the aims of social justice.
* Analyse wider social policies and social discourses that limit client and practitioner capacities and potentials, and develop an understanding of various ways to initiate, create, and empower opportunities for individuals, groups, and communities.
In addition to the generic capabilities, the graduate of the Postgraduate Diploma or Master of Applied Practice with a Specialisation in Social Practice will be able to:
* Engage critically with the various meanings of social justice and employ the knowledge and skills needed to pursue the aims of social justice.
* Analyse wider social policies and social discourses that limit client and practitioner capacities and potential, and develop an understanding of various ways to initiate, create, and empower individuals, groups, and communities.


In addition to the generic capabilities, the graduate of the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Practice with a Specialisation in Health Science will be able to:
* Evaluate, and critically engage with, healthcare practice and/or research literature.
* Show in-depth understanding of compliance with the appropriate ethical, regulatory and cultural requirements for healthcare practice in New Zealand.
* Be an effective communicator, able to disseminate healthcare practices and concepts to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.

Content
The PGDipAP is a 120 credit programme that may include a 15- or 30- credit level 8 work-relevant project with the remaining credits from course work. The programme is composed of two compulsory 15-credit level 8 courses, other compulsory courses as prescribed by Specialisation and a choice of elective courses. There is also an option for candidates to review their informal learning and to make a claim for credit for this to be attributed to the qualification. Students are required to progressively develop critical thinking skills appropriate to level. Practice and work-based issues are central to the academic framework, thereby developing relevant professional/discipline understanding.
