Strategic Purpose Statement
The aim of the Postgraduate Diploma in Sustainable Aquaculture programme is to produce work-ready graduates with the personal attributes, advanced specialised knowledge and practical skills necessary to make an immediate and innovative contribution to sustainable aquaculture development whether locally, nationally or internationally.
Graduate profile
Graduates will be able to reflect on the complex and dynamic technological, social and economic environments in which sustainable aquaculture operations are undertaken. They will have advanced technical knowledge and skills required to design and conduct independent research utilising recognised industry methodologies, rigorous data analysis and effective problem solving techniques. Graduates will have the ability to critically evaluate aquaculture systems in terms of commercial, technical, environmental, ethical and social sustainability and make recommendations for improvement. They will have demonstrated their ability to adapt and innovate in an industry which is rapidly changing and to operate knowledgeably, productively and professionally in management, technical and research and development roles.

Entry Requirements
Academic Requirements: Applicants must have: * Graduated with a degree or honours degree in any science discipline from a New Zealand tertiary institution accredited to offer qualifications at this level; OR * Graduated with a degree from an overseas tertiary institution, deemed by the Academic Committee to be of equivalent standing. English Language Requirements: All applicants must have a level of English sufficient to be able to study at this level. Those students whose first language is not English should have: * An international English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall academic score of at least 6.5 (with at least 6.0 in each band) issued within the last two years or equivalent.

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
