Strategic Purpose Statement |
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the airports sector of the aviation industry with individuals who have attained sufficient operational skills and knowledge to provide safe, secure, and customer-friendly airport facilities, for domestic and/or international travellers.
They will have broad organisational and service skills, combined with specialised aviation knowledge required for operating in the highly regulated, safety, security and service dominated aviation industry. The qualification is stranded to enable people to specialise in airport customer service, airport maintenance, airport safety, or aviation security, while developing a broad knowledge of the full range of airport operations. The strands have some degree of commonality to meet the diverse needs of airports across New Zealand. Graduates will be able to work under broad guidance, and graduates of the Airport Maintenance and Airport Safety strands will have some responsibility for the performance of others. |

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- Respond to emergency situations in an airport to ensure the safety of staff and customers, by complying with health, safety, and security rules applicable to airports. Graduates of the Airport Customer Service strand will also be able to: - Provide customer services assistance to airport users within an airport environment whilst maintaining safety, security, and organisational standards. Graduates of the Airport Maintenance strand will also be able to: - Oversee airside construction and maintenance work, and specialist airport runway and aerodrome pavement testing operations to ensure operational reliability and regulatory compliance is maintained at an airport. Graduates of the Airport Safety strand will also be able to: - Oversee landside construction and maintenance work to ensure the landside safety of staff and customers is maintained at an airport, whilst maintaining safety standards on the apron area of an airport. Graduates of the Aviation Security strand will also be able to: - Provide aviation security services within an airport environment whilst maintaining safety and organisational standards. |
