Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the dairy processing sector with individuals who have the skills and knowledge to work as operators supervising dairy processing operations. This may include producing products such as cheese, ice cream, milk powder, milk protein, drinking milk or involved in packing, environment, or milk collection.

Learners will benefit by having a qualification within a training pathway that recognises progression through the dairy processing industry, as well as increased skills and knowledge acquisition to enable improved job performance and support career opportunities.

This qualification is targeted at personnel with experience in the dairy processing industry, who want to further develop their skills, knowledge, and have career progression opportunities.

The optional strands in this qualification recognise the skills and knowledge required to be able to operate the automated clean in place system and heat treatment process in a dairy products processing plant. Learners may complete one or both optional strands.

Graduates will be able to work as operators in the dairy processing sector, supervising processing operations producing products such as cheese, ice cream, milk powder, milk protein, drinking milk or involved in packing, environment, or milk collection.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Plan and manage work priorities in a dairy processing operation.
- Collate and communicate workplace information in a dairy processing operation.
- Coordinate health and safety, quality, environmental and sustainability practices in a dairy processing operation.
- Coordinate and monitor food safety requirements in a dairy processing operation.
- Operate and monitor a dairy processing operation to meet operational requirements.

Graduates of the Automated Cleaning strand will also be able to:
- Coordinate automated clean in place processing operations.

Graduates of the Heat Treatment strand will also be able to:
- Coordinate heat treatment processing requirements.

This qualification builds on the New Zealand Certificate in Dairy Processing (Level 3) with optional strands in Automated Cleaning, and Heat Treatment [Ref: 2562].

This qualification may lead to the New Zealand Certificate in Dairy Processing (Level 5) with strands in Operational Leadership, and Dairy Technology [Ref: 4268].
Employment pathways
