Strategic Purpose Statement
This qualification is for people wanting to gain the general graphic design skills and knowledge required to work in a junior technical or assistant role in a graphic design studio environment.

The graphic design industry and creative and cultural sector in Aotearoa New Zealand will benefit by having people with practical and conceptual skills that reflect current industry practice in graphic design.

Graduates will be capable of creating graphic design work within a team by applying the design process within project briefs. Graduates may have some responsibility for leading aspects of a graphic design project using basic leadership skills.

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Apply problem solving skills to a range of design challenges in a graphic design studio environment.
- Apply practical and conceptual skills in visual communication.
- Apply the essential principles of graphic design and the treatment of typography and its applications within project briefs.
- Create graphic design work using a range of graphic design techniques and processes.
- Analyse and evaluate own graphic design work and the work of others.
- Work collaboratively, and demonstrate basic leadership skills within a graphic design team.
- Demonstrate professional practices in a graphic design work environment.

Graduates of this qualification may wish to undertake further tertiary study at diploma or degree level in the field of creative arts.

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
