Strategic Purpose Statement
The aim of the Master of Information Technology is to produce IT graduates who are able to think critically, participate in investigative applied research and have a number of high level skills in the IT 6 / 70 field that can be applied in a wide range of situations. These high level skills will include both project management and strategic IT management with an emphasis on workplace needs. The programme has been developed in response to stakeholder consultation and is designed to produce graduates who can understand and solve the complex applied computing problems which are commonly faced in the IT workplace. On completion of the programme, graduates should be able to take up middle or senior IT management roles (depending on their entry work experience) with an understanding of the issues that managers in the IT field face. The programme will adopt an approach that utilises research projects, work based case studies and interaction with industry practitioners and will be delivered using a combination of face to face delivery, self-directed study and online resources.
Graduate profile
Graduates of the Master of Information Technology will: 1. have a proficiency of an advanced body of knowledge, including an understanding of broad conceptual and theoretical elements, in a functional domain of Information and Communications Technology 2. demonstrate an ability to think critically, participate in investigative applied research in information technology and employ high level skills in a wide range of applied situations 3. recognise when information is needed and have the capacity to locate/create, evaluate and use this information effectively and argue from evidence and are able to communicate knowledge, ideas, recommendations and decisions effectively, efficiently and ethically. 4. undertake independent research and solve complex applied computing problems commonly faced in the information technology workplace 5. possess values and attitudes consistent with their roles as responsible citizens and members of their professional communities as demonstrated by a desire for life-long learning.

Entry Requirements
The academic entry requirement for the Master of Information Technology is one of the following: * an NZQF-listed undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in the Information Technology field with a minimum of the equivalent to a B average as per the EIT-specified 11-point achievement-based grading system; or * a graduate diploma (or equivalent) in the Information Technology field with a minimum of the equivalent to a B average as per the EIT-specified 11-point achievement-based grading system degree; or * an equivalent professional qualification in a different field if the applicant can supply evidence of work experience at degree level or above within the Information Technology field, subject to an interview and/or the submission of a portfolio of evidence to establish the status and relevance of the applicant's prior learning and experience; or * completion of the Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology with a minimum B average; or * at the Dean's discretion, where an applicant's situation is compelling but not covered by the requirements listed above. Applicants from countries in which English is not the primary spoken language must demonstrate an acceptable level of English language fluency prior to acceptance in the programme. Ways in which English language fluency may be demonstrated include (i) completion of a programme of study in which English was the language of instruction (conditions apply*), and (ii) approved scores on IELTS tests, namely an Academic score of 6.5 with no band lower than 6 (or accepted international equivalents). *See NZQA English language entry requirements for international students at here An international student must be in possession of an appropriate visa for the duration of the Programme.
