Strategic Purpose Statement
The Graduate Diploma in Hospitality Management provides graduates in other disciplines who wish to pursue a career in the hospitality industry with the skills and knowledge needed to pursue a hospitality management career in the global market place. The programme also assists hospitality industry professionals to gain the discipline and recognition of a formal qualification and an organised knowledge system to complement their industry experience.
Graduate profile
Graduates will be able to:
apply appropriate skills and knowledge from their first qualification to relevant contexts in the hospitality industry.
integrate relevant theory, experience and skills to implement best practice in specific areas of hospitality operations and management.
relate their experience in working in a hospitality environment to the application of broader management principles.
draw on the theories and tools of analysis they have learned to manage hospitality organisations efficiently and enhance organisational performance
take responsibility for their own learning, conduct independent investigation, identify problems, and develop creative solutions which exhibit academic rigour.
communicate effectively with guests, prospective guests, co-workers, senior management, industry suppliers and other stakeholders
take responsibility for practicing ongoing personal development in the hospitality industry.
Education pathways
Graduates will be able to continue to postgraduate studies in hospitality management, or engage in interdisciplinary postgraduate studies utilising their expertise gained in both the GDHM and prior degree studies.
Employment pathways
Graduates will be able to apply for positions in the following areas:
* rooms division;
* accommodation management;
* reservations and sales;
* marketing;
* human resource management;
* events management;
* front desk;
* food and beverage management; and
* customer service
Graduates who perform well in their initial placements will be expected to track into supervisory and management roles.
Entry Requirements
A candidate for admission to this programme of study shall:
1. have completed a bachelor's degree in a discipline other than hospitality management and;
2. have an English level equivalent to IELTS 6.0 / TOEFL iBT 60 / AIS Test of English Proficiency (TEP) 52/80 or
3. gain approval under Admission Regulation 3: Special Admission.
Students with a bachelor's degree in Hospitality or Hotel Management may be accepted if it is considered that the programme can add extra dimensions to their previous studies.

Level

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
