The Bachelor of Animation with Honours aims to foster student abilities to contribute to, and advance the craft of animated storytelling; 2 provide our students with the reflective skills, technical abilities, motivations experiences and opportunities to develop their own personal artistic voice 3 develop students' capacity for innovative, transdisciplinary thinking 4 prepare our graduates for the interpersonal, procedural, organisational and business realities of the professional world 5 provide our students with a cutting edge, industry aligned curriculum 6 develop students cultural awareness, awareness of own cultural identities, and abilities to contribute to society, within the context of animation and related storytelling media, and including tikanga Maori and New ZealandAoteroa contexts; 7 develop critical thinkers who can effectively synthesise contextual knowledge with practice, and are equipped for further study at a post-graduate level and, 8 contribute to the global animation research environment through the development of independent reflective practitioners, capable of evaluating knowledge, planning and conducting original research, analysing results, and communicating their findings to the satisfaction of subject experts.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Animation are able to 1 integrate a range of skills, processes, technologies and theories to develop animation assets for multiple media platforms, that emotionally engage audiences and contribute to the communication of clear and compelling narratives 2 contribute significant personal artistic and creative input to the design, development and realisation of animated works 3 generate transdisciplinary strategies to devise innovative solutions to creative problems 4 evaluate the needs, pressures and business realities of the animation industry to function effectively as animation professionals in a variety of authentic work roles and settings 5 investigate and critically analyse contextual knowledge, for synthesis with practice, to contribute valuable skills, perspectives and knowledge to the evolving landscape of the Animation Industries and their associated communities. Graduates of the Bachelors of Animation with Honours are also able to 1 develop a sustained and conceptually focused approach to practical and theoretical research into animation to produce a substantial and original final project 2 generate and communicate a coherent research design with reference to recognised methodologies to support an original project 3 engage in critical investigation of the contextual field to inform the development of an original research project and frame outcomes.

In order to enrol in any programme at Animation College, an applicant must be an eligible person under section 224 of the Education Act 1989 Animation College may require that an applicant attend an interview to determine eligibility for admission, entry and/or selection into their intended programme of study Minimum Age No domestic applicant under the school leaving age, i.e. less than 16 years of age, may be admitted to the College, unless The applicant has been exempted from attending school by a person designated under sections 21 or 26 of the Education Act 1989, or The applicant has been exempted from attending school by the Chief Executive of the Ministry of Education. Disability If applicants have a disability that is likely to negatively affect their ability to participate or achieve in any way, they should indicate this on their enrolment form, prior to enrolment, so that appropriate needs assessment can be made, and reasonable provision arrangements can be arranged. The College may decline to admit an applicant whose disability is such that the applicant requires special services or facilities to enable their participation in the programme, or to derive substantial benefits from it, that cannot reasonably be made available Eligibility for Entry into the Bachelor Degree Programme Entry requirements apply regardless of whether the programme is offered on a full-time or part-time basis. For students to be eligible for entry into the programme, the following criteria must be met Portfolios All applicants must provide evidence of creative abilities and potential in the form of a portfolio. a good portfolio may contain a variety of work; animations, sketches, drawings, painting, mixed media, multimedia, photography, sculpture, etc.; portfolio specifications and requirements will be provided to all applicants to assist in their construction. English Language requirements For students who have English as a second language, a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent is required. General Admission Category To be considered for general admission, applicants must: Hold NCEA University Entrance or equivalent CIE/IB grades preferably including a minimum of 24 NCEA credits at Level 3 in practical art, design or technology subjects, or An appropriate qualification from an overseas secondary school or tertiary institution, deemed by Animation College to be sufficient for admission into a bachelor programme, or have successfully completed an Animation College Qualification, Level 6 or higher. Discretionary Admission Category Applicants who do not meet requirements for general admission, and are at least 16 and under age 20, may apply for discretionary admission. Discretionary admission applicants should: have reached a significant level of achievement in year 12, or have successfully completed a relevant foundation programme or tertiary qualification. All portfolios should show significant art and design skills and experience. Applicants may be asked to attend an interview to ascertain their suitability for admission in some cases. Special Admission Category Applicants who do not meet requirements for general admission, are age 20 or more, are New Zealand residents or permanent residents, and have relevant experience and skills may apply for special admission. The application must be supported by a professional portfolio, and or documented industry experience. International Students All international students must hold valid medical and travel insurance, and a valid New Zealand Immigration Service student permit, throughout their course of studies.
