Strategic Purpose Statement |
The postgraduate certificate is a first step into postgraduate study. It extends and deepens an individual's knowledge and skills by building on attainment in the principal subject(s) of the qualifying degree in education, early childhood education/teaching and/or leadership. It prepares an individual for further postgraduate study by staircasing into NZCA's Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership (ECE).

Postgraduate Certificate in Leadership (ECE) will have particularly strengthened their knowledge of leading and supporting teams, coaching and mentoring and leading pedagogical change within teams.

graduates of this qualification can continue on to enrol in our Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership (ECE). They can also apply to cross-credit the two courses when enrolling in our Master of Education (ECE) programme.

Entry Requirements |
Students must hold a NZQA equivalent level 7 degree or teaching diploma and be working in an early childhood service or in an organisation that has an early childhood education related focus.
Students holding a level 7 teaching diploma from an approved institution for initial teacher education, require current teacher registration and evidence of at least three years of professional, practical or scholarly experience of an appropriate kind. Admission is at the discretion of NZCA. |

CE leaders and aspiring leaders will connect to critically explore pedagogical, organisational and professional leadership within the bicultural context of Aotearoa/New Zealand. Social activism and traditional and contemporary models of Maori and Pasifika leadership are also examined. A key component of this programme is critical self-reflection to facilitate effective, ethical and motivational leadership that creates and sustains positive change in organisations for the benefit of young children and their families.

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
