Strategic Purpose Statement
The Master of Health Science provides the opportunity for health practitioners to advance and expand their knowledge and scholarship within an interdisciplinary learning environment. Students will develop skills of research, critical analysis, constructive synthesis and advanced practice within their discipline area; extend their interdisciplinary knowledge; and advance their appreciation and capabilities for collaboration. The programme offers the opportunity for students to reflect on the needs of their clients/patients within the contemporary health care setting that focuses on the integration of care.
Graduate profile
Graduates of the Master of Health Science will have advanced knowledge within their specialist field of health science, and will be able to apply that knowledge to new problems and situations in the management and provision of health care. Master of Health Science graduates will demonstrate advanced understandings of population health and health disparities. They will have extended their appreciation of the perspectives of other health professionals and of the contribution of interdisciplinary teams to health care, and will be able to apply this knowledge to planning, implementation and management of health care programmes and services that contribute to health care quality, equity and accessibility. They will be able to research, critically analyse and put forward sound arguments from evidence.

Entry Requirements
5.2.1 Entry to the Master of Health Science programme may be limited by the number of places available.
5.2.2 The academic entry requirement for the Master of Health Science is one of the following:
* an NZQF-listed Bachelor's or higher level degree (or equivalent) in a health-related field with a minimum of the equivalent to a B average as per the EIT-specified 11-point achievement-based grading system;
or
* a degree or equivalent professional qualification in a different field if the applicant can supply evidence of work experience at degree level or above within a health related field, subject to an interview and/or the submission of a portfolio of evidence to establish the status and relevance of the applicant's prior learning and experience;
or
* completion of the Postgraduate Certificate in Health Science with a minimum B average;
or
* at the Dean's discretion, where an applicant's situation is compelling but not covered by the requirements listed above.
5.2.3 Applicants must demonstrate an acceptable level of English language fluency prior to acceptance in the programme. Ways in which English language fluency may be demonstrated include (i) completion of a programme of study in which English was the language of instruction (conditions apply*), and (ii) approved scores on IELTS tests, namely an Academic score of 6.5 with no band lower than 6 (or accepted international equivalents).
