Strategic Purpose Statement |
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the hearing sector with a specialised hearing therapy workforce focussed on the application of aural rehabilitation practice, including technical knowledge and skills, in clinical and community settings.
This qualification is targeted at people seeking to further develop their knowledge, skills and abilities in the field of Hearing Therapy. Graduates of this qualification will work independently, leading and coordinating an individualised quality service for people who have hearing loss to enable them to manage their lives to the best of their abilities. |

Graduate profile |
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- Apply knowledge of organisational hearing measurement systems and processes to measure functional capability and assess the physical and psychosocial impact of hearing loss on a person's life using culturally appropriate values, processes and protocols. - Apply knowledge of hearing assessment outcomes, the impacts of hearing loss, and rehabilitation planning, to lead and coordinate the design, implementation and evaluation of an individual aural rehabilitation plan for a person who is impacted by hearing loss. - Apply knowledge of hearing loss and associated management strategies to provide a specialist service that enables people who are impacted by hearing loss to manage this impact. - Apply knowledge of national and international research and developments in hearing therapy to manage own learning through on-going professional development in order to provide a constantly improving customised outcome-focused hearing therapy service. |

Education pathways |
This qualification provides pathway for people:
- to further develop their knowledge, skills and abilities in the field of hearing therapy; and to progress within the health and disability qualifications framework; - already holding other qualifications in a social services or health and wellbeing related field, seeking to specialise in hearing therapy; - who have higher-level qualifications in health and wellbeing-oriented fields who wish to specialise in Hearing Therapy. This qualification may lead to higher level specialised clinical qualifications in Audiology, Speech and Language Pathology/Therapy, or further specialisation in sensory rehabilitation, such as working with people who are deafblind. |
