This qualification is intended for people who wish to pursue a career in adult tertiary teaching and training based on Mātauranga Māori.

The purpose of this qualification is to provide graduates with a range of knowledge, skills and experiences in mātauranga Māori education that can be applied in adult education contexts.

Graduates of this qualification will be able to competently apply knowledge of Maori philosophies and theories of education in a range of adult education contexts.

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Apply the principle of whanaungatanga by establishing relationships and communication strategies that address and supports the specific learning needs of adult learners.
- Apply the principle of kaitiakitanga to establish a kaupapa Māori learning environment by integrating Māori pedagogy, andragogy and the concept of ako into teaching practice.
- Apply the principles of pūkengatanga by creating relevant ariā to support the design and development of mātauranga Māori education programmes.
- Apply the principles of te pono me te tika by delivering an adult education programme grounded in mātauranga Māori values embedding self -reflection on own performance and teaching practice.
