Strategic Purpose Statement
This qualification is intended for people in the primary food processing industry who carry out laboratory, environmental, or quality assurance technical tasks.
The qualification includes strands that recognise the distinct skills and knowledge required for specific job roles in the primary products food processing industries.
Graduates will benefit by having a qualification within a training pathway that recognises progression through the primary products food processing industry as well as increased skills and knowledge acquisition to enable improved job performance and support career opportunities.
Graduates will be able to work in a self-managed capacity and may have some responsibility for the performance of others.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Plan and manage work priorities in a primary products food processing operation and provide workplace information.
- Carry out and monitor health and safety and quality practice requirements in a primary products food processing operation.

Graduates of the Laboratory Skills strand will also be able to:
- Plan, prepare and carry out a range of advanced laboratory activities related to primary food product.

Graduates of the Environmental Systems strand will also be able to:
- Plan, prepare and carry out a range of advanced environmental management systems requirements in a primary products food processing operation.

Graduates of the Product Quality Auditing strand will also be able to:
- Plan, prepare and carry out food products certification in a primary products food processing operation.
Education pathways
This qualification builds on the New Zealand Certificate in Primary Products Food Processing (Level 3) with strands in Laboratory Skills, Environmental Systems, and Product Quality Implementation [Ref: 2917].
This qualification may lead to further higher level study in food processing industries.
Employment pathways

This qualification must maintain currency with amendments to, and replacements of, legislation, regulations, and Codes of Practice relevant to the industry sector, which may include:
- Agricultural Compounds and Veterinary Medicines Act 1997;

- Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996
- Health and Safety at Work Act 2015;
