Strategic Purpose Statement
Through transdisciplinary engagement across social work, community development, and counselling, graduates contribute to organisations. Graduates applied research projects engage with, employers, industries, cultures, and communities to identify, define, and contextualise important issues requiring critical attention to enhance social justice and challenge structural inequality. There is a strong focus in the programme on Māori and other indigenous practice. Graduates plan, execute, complete, and disseminate practice-relevant research projects which provide solutions and innovations that influence social practice.
Graduate profile
Graduates of the Master of Applied Practice (Social Practice) will be able to apply an advanced body of knowledge in the following ways: 1. Use a range of approaches to community engagement to collaboratively explore solutions and innovations that align with social justice principles and challenge structural inequality 2. Integrate specialist knowledge, Te Tiriti O Waitangi, and indigenous perspectives to plan, execute and share applied research projects. 3. Enhance expertise and develop professionally through continuous learning, reflective practice, and evaluation. 4. Be competent, ethical, and culturally responsive practitioners. 5. Collaborate and communicate across a range of diverse individuals, groups, and communities.
Education pathways
This programme may build on the foundation of Bachelor's level study in a social practice area such as social work, counselling, or community development, or in a related field in health, education, and welfare. It may lead to further study in Higher Education or Professional Practice areas.
Employment pathways
This Programme does not lead directly to professional registration but is rather focussed on producing highly versatile professionals who have the necessary skills to engage independently in a broad range of activities related to their practice environments. Graduates may contribute to transformation in social practice or related fields. The project focus of the degree enables students to develop research skills that solve particular organisational problems and develop speciality skills depending on current practice needs. Entry Requirements
General Admission: To be admitted to this programme all applicants must be at least 16 years of age on the date of the programme's commencement for the semester in which they wish to enrol, and meet the following requirements:Applicants must: *Have a bachelor's degree (or level 7 Graduate Diploma) in the same or similar disciplinewith a B-Average or above and provide documentary evidence of outcomes in the discipline work environment to demonstrate an ability to perform in the programme and commit to achieving its outcomes;or*Have Ssuccessfully completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Practice(Social Practice) or the Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Practice (Social Practice) with a B-achievement in CISC80202, AND , a B-minimum GPA across allother courses.

Content
The MAP-SP is a 180-credit programme that includes at least 45 credits at level 9 in the form of a project, dissertation, orthesis, with the remaining credits from course work. The programme's course work is composed of three compulsory 15-credit level 8 courses and a choice of elective courses. Students are required to progressively develop critical thinking skills appropriate to level, within a transdisciplinary educational space. Practice and work-based issues are central to the academic framework, which hereby supports the development of relevant professional/discipline understanding within social practice and related fields.
