Strategic Purpose Statement
This qualification is designed for people who may be responsible for leading a Civil Defence emergency response team or crew.

This qualification contributes to a safer New Zealand through providing skilled emergency response personnel.

Graduates will operate under the broad guidance of a Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS) function manager, Incident Controller, designated emergency manager, or equivalent.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Instruct team members on their role in achieving tasks and outcomes as part of a Civil Defence emergency response team.
- Apply the Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS) within their own and wider emergency response contexts.
- Contribute to task planning and situational awareness to meet Civil Defence emergency response requirements.
- Lead a team to accomplish a task in an operational Civil Defence emergency management context.
- Implement health and safety policy and procedures, risk identification and risk management knowledge, to provide a safe operational environment in a civil defence emergency response context.
- Use operational skills and knowledge to lead a Civil Defence response team.
Education pathways
This qualification builds on the New Zealand Certificate in Emergency Response (Level 2) with strands in Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting, Civil Defence Emergency Management, Urban Fire and Rescue Operations, and Workplace Response [Ref: 3021].

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
