The purpose of this qualification is to provide the marine industry with people who have the knowledge and skills to work in a team, unsupervised, to refit or fit out vessels.

This is an entry level qualification for people intending to enter or who are already working in the marine sector, in the refit or fit out of vessels.

Graduates will have the specialised knowledge and skills to construct and install cabinetry including equipment, and fittings, for a marine vessel.

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Apply health and safety practices to ensure own and others safety and minimise potential hazards and environmental risk in a boat building work environment.
- Collaborate and contribute to the achievement of team objectives; and behave in a professional manner with colleagues, managers, and customers.
- Apply specific industry knowledge and terminology to communicate effectively.
- Select and use a range of products, materials, hand and power tools and plant and equipment relevant to common tasks for marine cabinetry and cabinetry installation.
- Apply knowledge of materials and techniques to construct cabinetry for a marine vessel interiors.
- Install cabinetry including equipment and fittings, for a marine vessel.

- or higher-level qualifications in the design sector.
