This qualification is for people who wish to develop a basic understanding of tikanga within a specialist field founded on a Māori worldview.
Graduates of this qualification will have basic knowledge and skills to support and participate in tikanga under close supervision.
Graduates of this qualification will be able to apply knowledge fundamental to tikanga practices across the community in general.

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Describe basic application of cultural concepts where tikanga are applied and practiced as an expression of mana ao tūroa.
- Use basic reo and tikanga practices as an expression of mana reo.
- Apply basic knowledge to describe tikanga as an expression of mana whenua.
- Engage and interact with others to carry out basic aspects of tikanga as an expression of mana tangata.
- Context Outcome: To achieve Te Pōkaitahi Tikanga (Waka) (Level 2) graduates must be able to apply the skills and knowledge of te pōkaitahi tikanga in a waka context to meet the outcomes.

To achieve Te Pōkaitahi Tikanga (Rongoā) (Level 2) graduates must be able to apply the skills and knowledge of te pōkaitahi tikanga in a rongoā context to meet the outcomes.

To achieve Te Pōkaitahi Tikanga (Te Ara Nunumi) (Level 2) graduates must be able to apply the skills and knowledge of te pōkaitahi tikanga in a te ara nunumi context to meet the outcomes.

To achieve Te Pōkaitahi Tikanga (Mātauranga Māori) (Level 2) graduates must be able to apply the skills and knowledge of te pōkaitahi tikanga in a mātauranga māori context to meet the outcomes.

To achieve Te Pōkaitahi Tikanga (Maori Development) (Level 2) graduates must be able to apply the skills and knowledge of te pōkaitahi tikanga in a māori development context to meet the outcomes.
