Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the fibrous plaster manufacturing industry with graduates who have achieved the practical skills and knowledge required to work unsupervised, completing fibrous plaster work to the level required of a commercially competent fibrous plaster manufacturer.

This qualification is for those intending to work in the fibrous plaster manufacturing industry, and also provides recognition of knowledge and skills for those already working in the industry.

The optional strand recognizes the knowledge and skills required of a fibrous plaster model and mould making specialist.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Apply knowledge of relevant legislation, drawings and specifications, materials, and mathematics to all aspects of the fibrous plaster manufacture trade.
- Operate to and maintain the required standards of a commercially competent tradesperson.
- Develop and maintain ongoing learning and emerging work practices specific to fibrous plaster manufacture.
- Provide leadership for people working in the fibrous plaster manufacture environment.
- Complete all aspects of casting a range of products including fibrous plaster sheets, cornice, architectural elements and decorative mouldings.
- Complete all aspects of running moulds including construction and running the moulds.

Graduates of the Specialist Model and Mould Making strand will also be able to:
- Complete all aspects of fibrous plaster specialist model and mould making, and repair work.
Education pathways
This qualification builds on the:
- National Certificate of Educational Achievement (Level 2) [Ref: 0973] construction vocational pathway;
- New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade Skills with strands in Allied Trades, Carpentry, and Joinery (Level 3) [Ref: 2834];
- New Zealand Certificate in Building, Construction, and Allied Trades Skills (Level 3) [Ref: 3845].

This qualification may lead to the New Zealand Certificate in Construction Related Trades (Supervisor) (Level 4) [Ref: 2381].
Employment pathways
