Strategic Purpose Statement
The Graduate Diploma in Business is designed for people who have an undergraduate degree or three year Diploma, from any discipline area, who want to develop knowledge and skills in business related fields of study.
The Graduate Diploma in Business aims to attract international students to New Zealand in support of the Government's strategic endeavour to double the value of international education to $5b by 2025. The programme will give the student applied business education, within a New Zealand context. The programme will explicitly connect the student to the global business labour market need (especially NZ's long-term skill shortage and skill-migrant categories) in line with NZIBT's stated strategy.
Graduate profile
The Graduate Diploma in Business programme allows students to develop their business skills and apply their knowledge base within their chosen industry. Students will be expected to critically analyse and synthesise new concepts and approaches.
Students are expected to work in a self-directed manner. These independent learning skills also prepare them for professional practice. As a result, negotiated projects will be set at an advanced level, involving students working towards their intended areas of professional practice.
On successful completion of the Graduate Diploma programme, students will be able to:
Articulate a consistent, coherent body of knowledge which underpins management, strategy, marketing and project management;
Demonstrate confidence in conceptualising, designing and implementing strategic, marketing and project plans;
Demonstrate independent learning, critical thinking and an understanding of research methodology within their area of specialisation;
Critically evaluate both their own and others' strategic, marketing and project plans with reference to current research and within the known and accepted body of knowledge;
Understand a variety of business concepts, processes and procedures relevant to contemporary New Zealand business organisations;
Identify opportunities, solve problems and achieve business, project and management objectives;
* Select and apply appropriate qualitative and/or quantitative research techniques for specific business projects;
Apply the theory of project management to a wide range of business and management settings
Education pathways
Graduates will have knowledge and skills used for a business or management role. They will be able to apply those skills and knowledge directly in their intended workplace. A flexible assessment structure is built into the programme allowing a range of project options, each guided by the potential area of employment targeted by the student.
Employment pathways
Graduates will leave the programme with an enthusiasm for business management, marketing and project management and an ability to continue their own personal development: conducting research, developing and extending their ideas, technical knowledge and skills. The student will have all of the necessary building blocks and understanding in order to continue into post-graduate study pathways.To find out more about employment opportunities click on the CareersNZ logo, then the provider who offers this qualification.
