Strategic Purpose Statement
The aim of the programme is primarily for internationally qualified Registered Nurses to build on their existing knowledge and skills in a wide range of professional contexts and topic areas emphasising the Aotearoa New Zealand context.
Graduate profile
Graduates will be able to:
1. Demonstrate intellectual independence, critical thinking and analytic rigour in their nursing practice.
2. Critically review practice and engage in lifelong learning required to work effectively with future developments in Nursing.
3. Critically apply knowledge of culturally safe practice that reflects a broad understanding of health and wellness.
4. Utilise a of range of theories, frameworks and models in practice with individuals, families, whānau and communities to engage with complex practice issues.
5. Competently utilise health assessment skills within a range of contexts.
6. Critically apply evidence-based practice to inform their nursing practice.
7. Apply knowledge and demonstrate skills/competency in Nursing Practice.
8. Advocate for the implementation of change towards best practice in nursing care.
Education pathways
Masters in Nursing, or a Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma or Masters in Health Science or relevant health area.
Employment pathways

Entry Requirements
*Academic
A Registered Nurse with a Bachelor's Degree holding a current Practising Certificate issued by the New Zealand Nursing Council or an internationally qualified nurse who has been assessed by the Nursing Council as meeting their language and academic requirements to undertake a Competence Assessment for New Zealand registration.
*English
If English is not your first language you may also be required to provide evidence of your English language skills as listed below. If you have no evidence of your English language skills and are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, contact us for an assessment.
IELTS 6.5 Academic (no subtest lower than 6.5).
Note: If you have achieved NCEA Level 3 University Entrance requirements you are not required to provide evidence of English Language Skills

This is a 120 credit, level 7 full time programme which consists of two compulsory courses. The remaining credits are chosen by the student to reflect their practice and/or professional development needs.

Level

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
