The entry point is BSW5.01 Whakamata - Foundation. This course is pre requisite to all courses in the degree. The rationale for this decision is that in Whakamata, students are oriented to the inquiry-based nature of the degree, to the profession of social work, and to being a successful student of social work. In year 3 all year 1 and year 2 courses are pre requisite to SW7.02 Social Work Practice 1. In year 4 all degree courses, apart from SW7.11 Social Work Inquiry and the elective, are pre requisite to SW7.14 Social Work Practice 2. The rationale for this decision is that the Practicum courses enable students to experience the interplay of theory and practice, and rely on their having a solid foundational framework, both to make sense of the practicum experience and to be of value to the agency offering the placement.
