Strategic Purpose Statement |
The BSW (Hons) will enable students to become competent, critical, reflective social workers with personal attributes and an advanced level of critical and analytical ability to underpin their practice. They will be able to plan and conduct research in social work. They will also have the educational requirements for NZ registration and be equipped to proceed to advanced study in the subject.

Graduate profile |
The objective of this programme is to produce graduates that:
1. Are empathic, non-judgmental, respectful, resilient and self-aware; and demonstrate integrity, authenticity and professionalism 2. Take an analytical and critically reflective approach to social work practice that includes the use of supervision, continuing professional development, on-going learning and personal wellbeing 3. Use analysis of institutional and societal structures that oppress, to inform social work practice 4. Are able to work collaboratively and in partnership with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds 5. Integrate understanding of the significance and implications of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and te ao Māori into social work practice 6. Work in accordance with the Aotearoa New Zealand Association of Social Workers (ANZASW) Code of Ethics and the SWRB Code of Conduct 7. Have an extensive knowledge base, skills and professional attributes to work across a range of diverse social work contexts and communities 8. Are proficient in professional literacies, including academic and research literacy, information literacy, numeracy, and digital literacy 9. Are able to undertake ethical research, critically reflect on the process, analyse the outcomes and evaluate their relevance to social work 10. Utilise research in an analytical and critically reflective manner to inform practice |

Education pathways |
The programme will prepare learners to be lifelong learners and to take responsibility for their own learning and professional development. They will be able to undertake post-graduate Masters level programmes in the field of social work as well as in related fields.

Entry Requirements |
Academic requirement
All students will initially enrol in the BSW. At the discretion of the Head of School students who achieve a B+ average over all Level 7 core compulsory social work courses in the third year may be offered entry to the Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) for their fourth year of study. Should they choose to undertake study at Honours level, they will be enrolled into the BSW (Honours) programme, and the credits gained in the first three years of BSW study will be credited to the BSW (Honours). Health and professional requirement ALL applicants are required to provide a completed POLICE VETTING REQUEST AND CONSENT Form and a PERSONAL DECLARATION Form (see Appendices 1 and 2) annually. |
