Strategic Purpose Statement
This qualification is for those currently working in, or who aspire to work in, career development services in a range of settings.

The purpose of this qualification is to provide New Zealand public and private sector organisations with people who have theoretical, technical, and applied knowledge to assist employees and prospective employees make appropriate career, transition, and training choices that will lead to a greater contribution to society and the economy.

Graduates will be able to provide professional career development services in educational and other employment settings suited to the context of cultural diversity in Aotearoa/New Zealand and a changing global economy.

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Recognise and respect the diversity of cultures, people, and workplaces in Aotearoa/ New Zealand in the context of career development.
- Evaluate, select, and utilise appropriate career development strategies, tools, and resources.
- Understand and integrate career development theory into the professional delivery of effective and ethical career services for individuals, groups and organisations.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships as a career development practitioner.
- Communicate effectively and appropriately in the context of career development practice.
- Analyse labour market trends, in a career development context, and understand the implications of changing global patterns of work, education, and technology.
- Engage in critical reflection, personal and professional development and recognise the relevance of professional supervision as a career development practitioner.
- Demonstrate leadership by modelling professional career development practice.

-Bachelor of Social Services (Career Practice) (Level 7).
