Strategic Purpose Statement |
The aim of the Master of Early Childhood Education is to grow professionals into exemplary practitioners in early childhood education. The qualification provides a context in which students advance and extend their professional knowledge and skills through:
Critical engagement, research and scholarship in a range of contemporary early childhood education topics and discourse; Independent thinking and critical consciousness'; Self-reflexivity of teaching and learning pedagogies; Research and critical reflection on practice as it relates to the field of early childhood education. |

Graduate profile |
The graduate profile is based on the Postgraduate Conceptual Framework. On completion of this qualification, graduates will demonstrate:
Advanced theoretical knowledge fundamental to the early childhood sector; Academic scholarship in a range of specialised early childhood topics; Higher order skills in critical thinking and independent thought; In-depth critical reflection and research skills. |

Education pathways |
Graduates of the Master of Early Childhood Education are able to pathway into a Master's programme such as the Master of Education (ECE) at NZTC to complete a thesis and be eligible to apply for a doctoral programme in education at a university.

Entry Requirements |
Applicants for the Master of Early Childhood Education must have a Bachelor degree at Level 7 (360 credits) or higher qualification. Applicants for whom English is a second language and Te Reo Maori is not their first language must provide evidence of an Academic IELTS score issued within the last two years of at least 6.5 overall, 6.5 in writing with no band score lower than 6 or equivalent. IELTS scores may be combined from two tests as long as on one test a minimum of 6.5 overall and 6.0 in each component is achieved.

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
