Strategic Purpose Statement
The Bachelor of Design (Honours) provides students who have already achieved excellence in their undergraduate degree the opportunity to extend and deepen their knowledge and understanding of design research methods and professional design practices. Through advanced research and systematic engagement with contemporary thinking in their chosen field, they will develop an honours project which demonstrates research by design, addresses sustainability from multiple perspectives, is supported by a dissertation or equivalent, and presented in a public forum. Graduates will be prepared for further postgraduate study or employment in a design creative lead role.
Graduate profile
Graduates of the Bachelor of Design (Honours) will be able to:
* demonstrate an applied understanding of the historical and contemporary conventions of their field
* engage with a range of design research methods
* demonstrate intellectual independence, analytic rigour, and the ability to understand and evaluate new knowledge and ideas
* incorporate critique to produce a proposal-based body of critically engaged applied design research expressed through a design outcome
* reflect on the application of professional practices in a design studio or workplace environment
* address sustainability from cultural, social, environmental and/or economic perspectives through their chosen project
* acquire the ability to assess and evaluate the cultural, social, environmental and/or economic impact via completion of an impact assessment report
* evaluate and articulate how their work is positioned within a wider context
* produce a scholarly research document or equivalent that supports their chosen project
* exhibit or present project findings in a public forum

Entry Requirements
Minimum entry requirements are
1. The Bachelor of Design (discipline endorsed) Level 7, or an equivalent qualification at bachelor level or above with an overall grade of B+ (75%) or higher in final year level 7 courses.
2. Commencement of the honours study must occur within five years of the successful completion of the undergraduate degree. Exceptions require the approval of the postgraduate coordinator based on advice from the relevant academic leader and the supervisor.
3. International entrants must demonstrate that they have equivalent experience/qualifications as domestic entrants, and, for those whose first language is not English, must provide evidence of English language competence of IELTS academic band score of 6.5 (overall) with no individual band less than 6.0, or equivalent.

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
