The programme will provide employment opportunities in Road transport service and repair businesses, agricultural equipment service and repair businesses, plant and equipment service and repair businesses and materials handling service and repair businesses
Graduate profile
Graduates of this programme will hold skills in work safety and emergency procedures, measuring, testing, diagnosing, and repairing electrical, electronic, wiring and lighting systems, testing, diagnosing and servicing cooling systems, inspecting, testing, diagnosing and repairing diesel fuel injection systems and intake and exhaust systems, applying lubricants, sealants and service bearings, welding using gas, manual arc and gas metal arc. Graduates will also hold knowledge of internal combustion engines, drive line components, automotive heavy equipment braking systems and hydraulic systems and understand technical data and language in the area of automotive heavy engineering.
Education pathways
The programme provides an opportunity to commence an apprenticeship in the automotive heavy sector and continue towards the completion of the National Certificates (Levels 3 and 4). Students successfully completing this programme will have completed the compulsory core and core elective sections of the Level 3 National Certificate in Motor Industry (Automotive Heavy Engineering) with strands in Road Transport, Plant and Equipment, Agricultural Equipment and Materials Handling.

Entry Requirements
3 years secondary education and successful completion of NCEA Level 1 with a minimum of 12 credits in numeracy and 12 credits in literacy: or equivalent and completion of an entry test. OR successful completion of a recognised level 2 qualification of at least 60 credits in an automotive trade and 3 years secondary education and completion of an entry test. Special admission - Students may apply to the Head of School for special admission. English language requirement is an overall IETLS score of 5.5 with no individual band score lower than 5, or equivalent is required. Applications from mature students are welcome.
