Strategic Purpose Statement
Students on this programme will gain knowledge and skills to enter either the car or motorcycle service and repair sectors of the motor industry
Graduate profile
Graduates of this programme will hold skills in the use and care of hand tools and workshop equipment, measuring, testing, diagnosing and repairing electrical, electronic, wiring and lighting systems, work safety and emergency procedures, performing workplace requirements according to quality control standards and applicable legislation, maintaining, servicing, repairing motor vehicle fuel systems, maintaining, servicing, and repairing motorcycle braking systems, applying lubricants, sealants and service bearings, cleaning components and maintaining cleaning equipment and carrying out engineering workshop tasks. Graduates will also hold knowledge of internal combustion engine operation and transmission systems as applied to motorcycles.
Education pathways
The programme is comprised of unit standards that are from the National Certificate in Motor |Industry (Automotive Electrical and Mechanical Engineering) (Level 3). It is envisaged that students who complete this programme will gain employment and enrol as trainees with the New Zealand Motor Industry Organisation to complete this National Certificate at Level 3 and progress on to the National Certificate at Level 4.

Entry Requirements
Minimum requirements for entry to the programme are: 3 years secondary education, successful completion of NCEA Level 1 with minimum of 12 credits in numeracy and 12 credits in literacy or equivalent, and completion of an entry test OR successful completion of a recognised Level 2 qualification of at least 60 credits in an automotive or related trade; and three years secondary education; and completion of an entry test. Special Admission - Students who do not meet the entry requirements may apply to the Head of School for special admission. Admission under these circumstances will be made at the discretion of the Head of School. English language requirement: Students for who English is not their first language, an overall IELTS score of 5.5 with no individual band score lower than 5, or equivalent is required. Applications from mature students are welcome.
