Strategic Purpose Statement |
This qualification is designed for people who are employed in news media outlets or who are training to become professional journalists.
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the journalism sector with people who have the appropriate capabilities and competencies to work without supervision as a journalist in the changing media environment. This includes the attributes necessary to contribute to a bi- and multicultural environment in Aotearoa New Zealand. |

Graduate profile |
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- Create, present and publish news stories across multiple platforms, to publication standard. - Source and evaluate materials for the publication of advanced news stories for multiple platforms. - Apply an in-depth working knowledge of the laws and ethical codes relevant to journalism, to the production of news media. - Apply knowledge of statistical concepts to analyse data and information from multiple sources, to produce news stories. - Research and evaluate the social, political, economic, cultural and historical conditions relevant to journalism and apply these to journalism practice. - Apply leadership and self-management skills to own work, to achieve a high level of professional practice in a journalism environment. |
