Strategic Purpose Statement
The aim of this qualification is to enable students to develop the skills and knowledge to coordinate, develop, implement and monitor infection risk management programmes within health related organisations and environments.
Graduate profile
After successful completion of this qualification, students will have the skills and knowledge to be able to:
1. Evaluate leadership issues pertaining to the implementation and coordination of infection risk management utilising evidence based and best practice research
2. Identify the criteria required for the development, coordination and implementation of effective infection risk management monitoring and quality assurance strategies
3. Analyse the principles of developing and implementing culturally appropriate infection prevention and control practices and procedures, including the implications of the Treaty of Waitangi for health related organisations and environments
4. Identify the chain of infection and its physiological basis
5. Critically analyse the principles of epidemiology and epidemiological research
6. Analyse best practice strategies for managing and containing infectious diseases to improve population health
7. Critically analyse the requirements within health related organisations and environments with relation to preventing and managing risk of infection

Entry Requirements
Undergraduate degree in any discipline, Level 6 Diploma in a relevant field or be able to demonstrate equivalent practical, professional or educational experience. Ability to meet academic requirements and English language competency.
Additional Requirements
For international applicants who come from non-English speaking backgrounds, an IELTS Academic score of 6.0 with no band score lower than 5.5, or an equivalent relevant English Proficiency Outcome as outlined in NZQF-related rules (Rule 18).
For domestic applicants for whom English is not their first language, evidence of language competency may be required. If concern is raised related to communication competency in the English language, any student (domestic or international) may be requested to undertake an English language test prior to or during the programme. If the student is found to have an IELTS score of less than 5.5 in all bands, they maybe temporarily withdrawn from the programme until they can demonstrate the required English language competency.
