Strategic Purpose Statement
The Graduate Diploma in Mentoring and Professional Leadership is a qualification designed to prepare graduates to seek roles within their area of expertise where there are leadership and/or mentoring opportunities. Students will develop knowledge and skills in critical reflection of their practice within the context of mentoring and leadership.
Graduate profile
Upon successful completion of the Graduate Diploma in Mentoring and Professional Leadership, graduates will be able to:
* Work with others in mentoring and/or leadership roles.
* Critically reflect on their professional practice.
* Interpret, critique and apply contemporary research to solving leadership and mentoring problems.
* Evaluate possible legal requirements which relate to their professional practice.
* Contribute to communities of practice.
* Critically evaluate the professional contexts they are working in to understand the influences on their and their colleagues' professional practice.
* Drawing on theory critically reflect on own and colleagues' communication.
* Implement strategies to develop professional relationships.
* Solve work-based problems through an understanding of contemporary strategic management and human resource management theories and practice.
* Work within best practice guidelines when co-presenting professional development.
Education pathways
Graduates of this programme will be eligible for entry to higher level study at postgraduate level.
Employment pathways
Graduates from this programme may move into employment as managers and supervisors in their specialist area of expertise (if they meet the professional body's registration criteria), e.g. Associate Teachers, team managers in Health Care settings or Social Work settings; Mentors for colleagues and students; Professionally Registered Mentors; or progress onto further learning in fields relevant to their profession e.g. Master's in Nursing, Master's in Education, and Master's in Social Work or related field.To find out more about employment opportunities click on the CareersNZ logo, then the provider who offers this qualification.
Entry Requirements
All students (domestic and international) must:
* Have completed an undergraduate degree in any discipline.
* Be able to demonstrate equivalent practical, professional or educational experience.
* Be New Zealand citizens, permanent residents or have the requisite visa for study purposes.
* Be able to demonstrate adequate literacy and/or numeracy skills to enable them to meet all academic and health and safety requirements of the programme/course on which they enrol.
All applicants to the programme who do not have English, te reo Māori or New Zealand Sign Language as their first language, or who did not undertake their secondary schooling in English must provide evidence of having achieved an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score of 6.0 in each academic band: reading, listening, writing and speaking with no band score lower than 5.5.

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
