Strategic Purpose Statement
This qualification is for individuals who have advanced performance and technical proficiency in a performing arts discipline, and who intend to advance their performing arts teaching skills.
It provides the performing arts industry with teachers who can teach learners to an advanced technical proficiency in their chosen performing arts discipline and provide leadership and mentoring skills to those developing their profession in the industry.
Graduates can contribute to the cultural, social and economic life of New Zealand.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Design learning programmes to facilitate learners to perform at a professional level with advanced technical proficiency and artistry.
- Deliver an advanced performing arts programme to meet the needs of learners and their individual capabilities in a range of contexts.
- Apply a broad range of assessment methodologies and strategies, to improve skill acquisition for learners in their chosen discipline.
- Engage in reflective practice to ensure teaching results in improved outcomes for performing arts learners.
- Provide professional leadership and support to other performing arts instructors working within and across performing arts programmes.
- Manage own professional practice and professional development to develop employment opportunities as a performing arts teacher/instructor.

This qualification may build on the New Zealand Certificate in Performing Arts Teaching (Level 5) [Ref: 3421].

This qualification can lead to higher-level study.

For those intending to teach full-time within primary or secondary schools, higher-level study is required to meet teacher registration requirements
