Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the performing arts and events industry with competent performing arts production technicians who will bring a range of complex technical, creative, collaborative and management skills to a project-based team environment.

Graduates can contribute to the cultural, social and economic life of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Manage and operate a variety of technical equipment used in performing arts and event environments including live sound, lighting, video, stage mechanics and stage management.
- Plan and manage costing, hiring, installing and operating equipment and their related processes including budgets, schedules and documentation.
- Analyse and generate solutions for complex and unfamiliar problems related to equipment, technology and systems within performing arts and events.
- Work and communicate professionally within diverse networks and teams including team members, leaders, stakeholders and clients.
- Collaborate in the interdisciplinary creative realisation of productions or events.
- Manage design information to ensure appropriate resources are applied to productions or events.
- Ensure operational safety and compliance within legislation and rules, including when working on elevated platforms.
- Manage own professional practice, professional development and industry knowledge to develop employment opportunities.
Education pathways
This qualification can build on the New Zealand Certificate in Entertainment and Event Technology (Level 4) with strands in Entertainment Rigging, Lighting, Live Sound, Video, Stage Management, Stage Mechanics and Scenic Construction [Ref: 3417].

This qualification can lead to study at a higher level.
Employment pathways
This qualification may lead to employment or self-employment in roles such as:
- events and production technician;
- technical operator;
- venue technician;
- technical coordinator;
