Strategic Purpose Statement
The Bachelor of Nursing Te Tohu Paetahi Tapuhi is a professional qualification designed to prepare skilled, competent, culturally safe, confident, ethical reflective practitioners equipped with recognised professional knowledge, attitudes and values for professional nursing practice. The qualification aims to provide students with the foundation knowledge and professional skills that enable them to demonstrate the competencies of a beginning registered nurse and meet the Nursing Council of New Zealand requirement for registration as a registered nurse.
Graduate profile
Graduates of the Bachelor of Nursing Te Tohu Paetahi Tapuhi qualification will be able to: establish a functional knowledge of working within a bi-cultural context, underpinned by the Treaty of Waitangi, and recognise the status of Te Tiriti o Waitangi as the foundation for Hauora Mÿori for nursing practice in Aotearoa New Zealand; provide and/or facilitate the provision of culturally safe nursing care within a collaborative holistic framework that values and recognises human difference and diversity within a range of settings; work collaboratively within a range of health care settings, and contribute to the multi-disciplinary team approach in the provision of optimal client/patient centred health outcomes for individuals, whÿnau family, iwi and communities; link professional nursing practice knowledge and skills to science and evidenced based research; integrate reflective practice, critical thinking and the ability to analyse, synthesize and apply research to the health care interface; ensure provision of professional nursing practice that employs a caring ethical framework, in conjunction with communication strategies to effect therapeutic relationships with individuals, whÿnau families, iwi and communities; institute professional literacy and numeracy, the ability to identify own learning needs and commit to continuing professional development to become lifelong independent learners; exhibit nursing knowledge and skills that portrays confident and competent nursing practice that meets legal and ethical parameters of the nursing profession; and meet the requirements of the NCNZ for registration as a registered nurse.

Entry Requirements
Domestic applicants must be at least 17 years of age on entry to study. Between 17 and 20 applicants require University Entrance/60 NCEA credits Level 2 including a minumum of 28 credits at level 2 or higher on each of four approved subjects taken from an approved subjects list and undertaken within 1 calendar year; a minumum of 14 credits on the NZQF in Numeracy and literacy at Level 1 or higher made up of credits in Mathmatics or Statistics and Probability or Pangarau or unit standards 26623, 26626, 26627; and a minumum of eight at Level 2 or higher in English or Te reo Mÿori; or A minimum of 42 credits at Level 3 or higher on the NZQF, including a minimum of 14 credits at level 3 or higher in each of two approved subjects from an approved subjects list, with a further 14 credits at Level 3 or higher taken from no more than two additional subjects on the NZQF or approved subjects; and a minumum of 14 credits on the NZQF in Numeracy and literacy at Level 1 or higher made up of credits in Mathmatics or Statistics and Probability or Pangarau or unit standards 26623, 26626, 26627; and a minumum of eight at Level 2 or higher in English or Te reo Mÿori; or Bursary (3 C grades or better); or Evidence of recent study at Level 4 or higher on the NZQF. Students who have a record of convictions will be considered for entry on the basis of: The recency of the convictions The seriousness of the convictions The ability of the student to be accepted for placements and therefore completion of the qualification. International applicants require: Evidence of receipt of an appropriate visa. Demonstrated ability to meet English language requirements of the programme. Applicants whose first language is not English are required to have proof of a minimum IELTS level 6.5 academic in all bands issued within the last two years. Evidence of academic achievement appropriate to the level of study for which the student is seeking admission. Other requirements Confirmation of acceptance of the Bachelor of Nursing Te Tohu Paetahi Tapuhi is subject to submission of the following documents prior to the start of the programme: Current comprehensive first aid certificate Evidence of immunity as identified by the school of nursing letter regarding physical and mental health status from a GP or a Practice Nurse
