Strategic Purpose Statement
This qualification will provide the snowsport industry with individuals who have applied skills and competencies to operate independently as instructors in the New Zealand snowschool environment.

The strands allow snowschool instructors to specialise in the instruction of introductory ski, snowboard, telemark or cross-country skills for all age groups.

This qualification includes embedded internationally recognised technical New Zealand snowsport instruction industry awards for ski, snowboard and telemark strands.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Facilitate safe and positive introductory learning experiences for a range of client groups in a snowschool environment.
- Select, adapt and apply appropriate teaching styles and practices to plan, implement and evaluate learning experiences to meet a range of individual and group learning needs for beginners within a snowschool environment.
- Monitor and respond to health and safety conditions to provide appropriate lesson adaptations in accordance with snowschool policies and procedures.
- Provide positive snowschool experiences for individuals and groups by applying customer service, professionalism and time management skills.

Graduates of the Ski strand will also be able to:
- Apply safe teaching practices to instruct up to and including advanced wedge turns on skis on green terrain.

Graduates of the Snowboard strand will also be able to:
- Apply safe teaching practices to instruct up to and including linked skidded turns on snowboards on green terrain.

Graduates of the Telemark strand will also be able to:
- Apply safe teaching practices to instruct up to and including linked beginner turns on telemark skis on green terrain.

Graduates of the Cross-Country strand will also be able to:
- Apply safe teaching practices to instruct up to and including classic technique and skate techniques on cross-country skis on groomed green terrain.
Education pathways
This qualification may lead to the New Zealand Certificate in Advanced Snowschool Instruction (Applied) (Level 5) with strands in Ski, Snowboard, Telemark and Cross-Country, and optional strand in Business Development [Ref: 3496].
Employment pathways
