Kaiako who graduate from Mataako Hokai Paerua will be qualified with a level 8 post graduate diploma to teach in Kura, Wharekura, Akomanga Rumaki, Akomanga Reo Rua and Schools, with requisite teaching and learning skills and knowledge, and graduate-level demonstration of the Graduate Teacher Standards, the Teaching Code of Ethics and the good character and fit to be a teacher Matatu Aotearoa policy.

1.1.1.1 have completed an application pack in full and provided all required documentation prior to entry into the Hotaka, and 1.1.1.2 have completed and submitted the Criminal Convictions Disclaimer form; as well as the Police Vetting Information form - Authorisation to Disclose Information, which allows police vetting to occur 1.1.1.3 be at least 18 years or older, and 1.1.1.4 have graduated with, and can provide evidence of a Bachelor's degree at Level 7, of at least 360 credits, that is recognised by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) 1.1.1.5 Wharekura Kaiako Ihupuku will have an undergraduate degree that supports two secondary teaching subjects, one to 200-level and one to 300-level, with STEM subjects as preferred and desirable, and 1.1.1.6 has a minimum of a B+ average for the third year of their undergraduate degree; or 1.1.1.7 Granted entry through Special Admission, where a Kaiako Ihupuku is over the age of 20 years at the start of the programme; and can provide: (1) Sufficient evidence of work experience, skill, education, background knowledge, commitment and support to successfully undertake the programme of study as required. (2) A comprehensive portfolio of evidence to support their application. 1.1.1.8 Special admission may be granted at the discretion of the relevant Programme Coordinator, Head of School or Regional Director or designated nominee. Note: Kaiako Ihupuku may be required to successfully complete a bridging or tertiary introductory programme as a condition of entry into higher level programmes; and 1.1.1.9 have passed Te Reo Rangatira NCEA Level 3 or above; or 1.1.1.10 complete an oral and written assessment activity to demonstrate an equivalent or advanced level of competency in both korero and tuhituhi; and 1.1.1.11 must be interviewed kanohi ki te kanohi, by a selection panel, to assess: their potential to be a kaiako in a Kura and/or Wharekura within Aotearoa New Zealand in relation to the Graduating Teaching Standards, and their ability and level of Te Reo through various scenarios and activities; and 1.1.1.12 articulate and display a willingness to develop subject expertise (beyond their degree or tohu expertise) Note: Preference will be given to Kaiako Ihupuku who wish to develop their expertise in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM subjects); and 1.1.1.13 provide two referees (such as Kaumatua, Kaiako, Tumuaki, community leaders, minsters and priests etc.) to attest to their character in writing These referees must also be available for face-to-face confirmation; and 1.1.1.14 undertake and meet the Education Council of New Zealand/Aotearoa, NZQA or Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi checks required including meet the specified standard for Police vetting for criminal convictions, and Vulnerable Children Act (2014) check, as well as proof of identity and health status; and 1.1.1.15 display potential to meet the Education Council requirements in relation to Graduating Teaching Standards and the "Good character and fit to be a teacher" EC policy; and must demonstrate that they have the support of their Iwi/Hapu and/or Whanau to enrol in the Mataako Hokai Paerua (Kura, Wharekura) (Taumata 8) hotaka; and 1.1.1.16 will need to demonstrate a moderate level of computer literacy and, an ability to engage in On-line/web supported delivery modes The candidates need to have the Information Technology competency to enable full access to the delivery mode as this is an integral component of the postgraduate diploma 1.1.1.17 must be able to attend a minimum of 80% of the programme and its related activities 1.1.1.18 who have criminal convictions and/or are unable to pass the vulnerable person act check which precludes them from registering as a kaiako, will be excluded from enrolment 1.1.1.19 must provide evidence of age and citizenship and other identity details as specified by TEC conditions and Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi approved enrolment policy and process
