Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide New Zealand workplaces with people who have the foundation health and safety skills, knowledge, and attributes to participate in workplace health and safety.

Graduates will have general skills and knowledge of the health and safety requirements and responsibilities and how these are associated with a workplace.

Graduates will be able to apply these skills under limited supervision.

This qualification is intended for people who are intending to work, or working within a New Zealand workplace.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Apply knowledge of legislative requirements, duties and obligations of health and safety to a job role in the workplace.
- Apply workplace health and safety practices to contribute to health and safety in the workplace.
- Communicate workplace health and safety practices and their wider benefits to the New Zealand workplace.
- Apply the principles of health and safety risk assessment, including hazard identification and mitigation measures, to a job role.

Entry Requirements
Programmes must reflect the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, its regulations and any subsequent amendments.

Programmes contextualised for a specific industry, must incorporate any industry specific approved codes of practice, safe work instruments and/or guidelines and standards into that programme.

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
