Strategic Purpose Statement |
The purpose of the Graduate Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality Management programme is to provide graduates in other disciplines, who wish to pursue a career in the growing tourism and hospitality industry, with the opportunity to supplement the skills, knowledge and experience gained in their first qualification, with the skills and knowledge needed to make a successful transition to tourism and hospitality. The GDTHM can also assist those tourism and hospitality industry professionals who are able to demonstrate equivalent practical, professional or educational experience of an appropriate work type towards a recognised one-year, higher level, formal qualification.

Graduate Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality Management graduates will be able to :
* apply appropriate skills and knowledge from their first qualification to relevant contexts within tourism and hospitality; * integrate relevant theory, experience and skills to implement best practice in specific areas of tourism and hospitality operations and management; * apply management principles in a tourism and hospitality environment; * draw on the theories and tools of analysis they have learned and critically think to manage tourism and hospitality organisations efficiently and enhance organisational performance; * take responsibility for their own learning, conduct independent investigation, identify problems, and develop creative solutions which exhibit academic rigour and independent learning skills that encourage the regular accessing of new knowledge and information; * communicate effectively with guests, prospective guests, co-workers, senior management, industry suppliers and other stakeholders through effective written communication and well-developed inter-personal skills; and * take responsibility for practicing ongoing personal development in the tourism and hospitality industry. |

Education pathways |
Graduates will be able to continue to postgraduate studies in tourism and/or hospitality management, or engage in interdisciplinary postgraduate studies utilising their expertise gained in both the GDTHM and prior degree studies.

Entry Requirements |
A candidate for admission to this programme of study shall:
(a) have preferably completed a degree in a Commerce, Business or Management field or a bachelor's degree in a discipline other than tourism and hospitality management ; and (b) have an English level equivalent to Academic IELTS 6.0 (with no band less than 5.5) or a TOEFL iBT score of 60 (with a writing score of 20) (must be within 2 years of application); and (c) have completed an interview with the Programme Leader Students with a bachelor's degree in tourism or hospitality may be accepted if it is considered that the programme can add extra dimensions to their previous study |

There are 7 courses in the GDTHM totalling 120 credits over 1 year. All courses from Level 5 through to Level 7, apart from the Internship Project have equal credit weighting at 15 credits; the Industry Internship Project is at Level 7 and is worth 30 credits due to the time associated with this one course at a level where the self-directed study, self-analysis and personal evaluation is emphasised in preparing the learners for their associated future career opportunities.
