Strategic Purpose Statement |
The general aim of the proposed postgraduate programmes is to enable IT practitioners and recent IT graduates to gain internationally recognised skills and knowledge in applied information technology. They will be able to use their enhanced knowledge, skills and capabilities to obtain employment in positions of responsibility that relate to the electives they choose, thus helping to meet the strong demand from government, industry and the wider community for ICT expertise. Some may choose to undertake further studies.
The specific aim of the Postgraduate Certificate is to enable students to undertake a short programme of study in order to deepen and extend their information technology knowledge and skills, and to upgrade their qualifications. |

Graduate profile |
Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Information Technology graduates will be able to:
* demonstrate a strong capacity for independent and critical thinking * learn independently and ensure that continued learning is prioritised * communicate complex concepts clearly to clients and team members * evaluate multi-faceted information in order to determine an appropriate course of action * demonstrate high levels of knowledge and skill in managing complicated information technology projects * Apply advanced information technology knowledge and skills to solve challenging problems in unfamiliar practical situations. |

Education pathways |
Graduates from the Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Information Technology may subsequently enrol in the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Information Technology, or the Master of Applied Information Technology, with up to 60 cross-credits.

General Academic Admission
* Candidates are required to have a bachelor's degree in Computing or Information Technology or a related subject area, with a grade average at level 7 of B or better in the final year of full-time study, or equivalent part-time study; or * An equivalent qualification as considered by the Centre's Postgraduate Programme Committee. Selection Criteria * Every candidate will attend a selection interview/hui and may attend with whanau support. Special Admission * Domestic applicants aged 20 years or above who have not met the General Admission or entry requirements for a programme, but whose skills, education or work experience indicate that they have a reasonable chance of success may be eligible for Special Admission. Special admission will be granted at the discretion of the relevant Head of School/Centre Director or designated nominee. Such applicants may be required to successfully complete a foundation, bridging or tertiary introductory programme as a condition of entry into higher level programmes. English Language Requirements * Candidates who have English as a second language are required to have an International English Language Test System (IELTS) score of 6.5 in the academic band, with no individual band score lower than 6.0; or equivalent. |

The Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Information Technology (PGCertAppIT) will require 60 credits consisting of a compulsory Level 8 module:
