Strategic Purpose Statement |
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the security sector with individuals who have obtained the fundamental knowledge and skills required to work as a security officer.
This qualification is suitable for those individuals who want to operate as a security officer in the security industry or for individuals already operating in the security industry who would like to gain recognition for current experience. Graduates will be capable of carrying out a broad range of tasks under limited supervision and demonstrate transferable skills in a security work environment. |

Graduate profile |
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- Communicate effectively with security management and staff, clients, and the public, while carrying out security work. - Conduct self professionally, and apply knowledge of New Zealand Law relevant to the security industry to comply with organisational and client requirements. - Operate security equipment and technology while carrying out security work. - Apply knowledge of confidentiality, corporate sensitivity, privacy and specific client requirements, to protect clients in a security context. - Apply knowledge of personal safety, situational awareness and risk assessment as it relates to workplace health and safety in order to carry out security work, including working in isolation. - Respond to incidents, events, and emergency situations, and interact with other organisations including emergency services in a security work context. |

It is highly recommended that education organisations offering programmes leading towards this qualification incorporate the requirement for the Security COA (certificate of approval) into their programmes.

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
