Strategic Purpose Statement |
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the security sector with individuals who have obtained the fundamental knowledge and skills required to work as a security officer.
This qualification is suitable for individuals who want to operate as a security officer in the security industry or for individuals already operating in the security industry who would like to gain recognition for current experience. Graduates will be capable of carrying out a broad range of tasks under limited supervision and will demonstrate transferable skills in a security work environment. |

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- Communicate effectively with security management, colleagues, clients, and the public while carrying out security work. - Conduct self professionally and ethically as a security guard in a workplace, demonstrating integrity and respect for all individuals. - Apply knowledge of New Zealand legislation relevant to the security industry to promote a safe and secure environment, mitigate security risks, and respond to security breaches. - Operate security equipment and technology while carrying out security work. - Apply knowledge of confidentiality, privacy, and specific client requirements to protect clients in a security context. - Apply knowledge of personal safety, situational awareness, and risk assessment as it relates to workplace health and safety in a security context. - Respond to incidents, events, and emergency situations, and interact with other emergency services in a security work context. |
