Strategic Purpose Statement
The Graduate Certificate in Career Development is designed for degree graduates to pursue further study at an advanced undergraduate level.
Graduates will have the ability to enable those who seek professional development in their careers field of work, to meet the needs of growing client requirements in a rapidly changing global economy.
The Graduate Certificate is a bridging qualification to postgraduate study for individuals developing educational, professional or vocational knowledge in a new discipline, profession or subject area and/or as a broadening or deepening of skills or knowledge already gained in an undergraduate qualification.
Graduates of the Graduate Certificate in Career Development can demonstrate some outcomes of a Bachelor of Career Development in a new area of study.
Graduates will be prepared for independent research and future scholarship should they elect to study at a higher level.
Graduate profile
Graduates of the Graduate Certificate in Career Development will be able to:
1. Demonstrate some outcomes of the Bachelor of Career Development in a new area of study
2. Apply further developed skills and knowledge gained in an undergraduate qualification that will prepare them for postgraduate study.
Education pathways
Graduates of the Graduate Certificate in Career Development will be able to progress to postgraduate qualifications in this field or progress to existing masters or postgraduate programmes.
Entry Requirements
Academic Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree
Alternative requirements:
Applicants who are unable to evidence that they meet Academic entry requirements, but who can demonstrate acquired skills for tertiary study gained through study, work and/or life experience, may be approved for alternative entry by the Curriculum Manager (or delegate).
English language requirements:
If English is not the applicant's first language, applicants will need to provide a result from a test or qualification on the acceptable alternatives English Proficiency Outcomes Table:
IELTS 6.5 Academic (no lower than 6.5 in each band),
Note: Applicants who do not have evidence of English language skills and are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, may contact NMIT for an assessment
The English Language requirements for this programme are higher than the minimum set by NZQA, therefore; applicants who have achieved NCEA Level 3 University Entrance may be required to provide evidence of English Language skills.
IELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form and are valid for two years from the date of the test.
Information for applicants:
It is strongly recommended that applicants have experience working in a careers advisory position.
For applicants wishing to progress to the third year of the degree programme from the Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance, or the Level 7 Diploma in Advanced Career Guidance, or an equivalent career qualification, a pathway is available.
Recognition of Academic Credit may be available for relevant previous study, work or life experience.
Applicants will be provided with this information and the opportunity to discuss requirements. Each application will be considered case by case and will follow the NMIT Recognition of Academic Policy and Procedure.

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
